A fresh take on the design process
Tyler Karu Design + Interiors works with both residential and commercial clients to create their ideal living space through renovation, reimagination and innovative design.
We work on large scale projects from the ground up, including remodels and new construction, collaborating with architects, builders, landscape designers and other craftsmen throughout the process. We engage in the architectural design from the inception of the project to ensure that the collaborative vision is executed appropriately.
With clients throughout New England and beyond, we work within a variety of architectural styles and challenges to maximize the needs of the client, honor the environment of the site and create a uniquely designed home. Our extensive experience in construction informs our process and proves to be invaluable to the symbiotic process with the client and the other trades involved in the building process.
As the daughter of a real estate developer and a residential designer, Tyler grew up in the family business. She could read blueprints before she hit her teens and made job sites her playground. Although she majored in literature at The George Washington University, she went on to study interior design and architecture at the New York School of Interior Design. Her years in Manhattan infused her education and process with a pace and vibrancy that her work reflects to this day.
Tyler’s career began in earnest when she moved back to Maine and flipped a tiny, neglected cottage, the first of many properties she has taken from derelict to delightful. With her unerring eye for skillful, creative, and innovative transformation, she has gained national recognition as an emerging commercial and residential design talent.
Tyler has the unmatched ability to reimagine the potential in a neglected home or reveal the true personality of a space not yet quite sure of itself. Tyler can be seen on HGTV's House Hunter's Renovation and contributes to MarthaStewart.com.
Getting her start in the residential construction industry while renovating homes with her husband, Tessa is accomplished at solving the challenges of space planning and perfecting design details. With a professional background in marketing, graphic design, and photography, working in a creative capacity comes naturally to her. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Photography and minor in Art History from the University of Southern Maine.
